Delta Kappa Epsilon to Provide ChapterBuilder to All Chapters

Carmel, Ind. – TechniPhi is proud to announce our newest full-adoption partner for ChapterBuilder! Delta Kappa Epsilon is the most recent national fraternity to implement ChapterBuilder to all 64 of the organization’s chapters.

Delta Kappa Epsilon began piloting the recruitment software with chapters in 2016, and is excited to be able to offer the innovative recruitment software as part of their growth strategy.

“DKE is excited for a partnership with TechniPhi and what ChapterBuilder can provide for our chapters. Our current goal is to ‘grow by 10’, meaning that we want to see our chapters and overall organization grow by 10%,” said Eric Holland, Director of Marketing and Technology for Delta Kappa Epsilon. “ChapterBuilder is a tool that’s going to make that goal possible for our fraternity.”

Delta Kappa Epsilon joins 5 other national fraternities who have adopted ChapterBuilder fully for all chapters. TechniPhi’s description of ChapterBuilder reads, “ChapterBuilder brings potential new members to you, alerts you when it’s time to follow up, gets all your members and advisors involved, keeps recruitment organized, and even provides real-time analytics to make your recruitment process smarter than ever!”

When asked about Delta Kappa Epsilon’s full-adoption partnership, Josh Orendi, TechniPhi’s co-owner, said, “Delta Kappa Epsilon’s decision to entrust the future growth of their fraternity through the use of ChapterBuilder is exciting and humbling. As they work to reach their ‘Grow by 10’ goal, we’re proud to be able to offer an innovative technology that will help them achieve it.”

TechniPhi’s CEO, Jessica Gendron Williams added, “We hear time and time again that fraternity members want resources and support in their recruitment efforts. Simply allowing chapters to do it on their own is not producing the desired results fraternities are looking for. Delta Kappa Epsilon’s partnership with TechniPhi and ChapterBuilder will ensure that all of the fraternity’s members have the tools they need to do fraternity recruitment the right way.”

TechniPhi Welcomes Erik Mudrak to Development Team

Contact: Branden Stewart

PJI_7349Carmel, Ind. – The TechniPhi staff grew once again this summer with the addition of Erik Mudrak to our Development team. Mudrak will work as a Developer helping to make improvements, upgrades, and enhancements that will improve the user experience of our core technologies including ChapterBuilder, CampusDirector, and MyVote.

“Bringing Erik onto our team is such an exciting moment for TechniPhi and our customers!” said Ellen Chesnut, Vice President of TechniPhi. “Erik brings a unique perspective to our team as he is the first developer to work for TechniPhi that used our technologies as an undergraduate fraternity leader. This perspective will undoubtedly help to serve our clients as we continue to improve and upgrade our products.”

Mudrak is a May 2017 graduate of Transylvania University, where he earned his degree in Computer Science. Prior to joining the TechniPhi team, he interned as a digital marketer at his university, served as a software developer for a small start up in Kentucky, and as a designer for Big Ass Fans.

“Greek life tends to hold fast to many of the traditions and processes that have been in place for ages, and that’s exactly what I spent my college fraternity career focused on changing,” said Mudrak, who served as the chapter president for his chapter of Delta Sigma Phi. “Fraternity and sorority organizations have a great deal to gain from utilizing technology, and I want to be a part of shaping the values of the 21st century fraternity. I want to build brilliant cross-platform web apps that enhance communication, excellence, and national bonds for Greek chapters.”

When he isn’t coding, Mudrak enjoys running, playing guitar and seeing live music, and photography. He also recently began a new hobby of beer-making, which he started after taking a Science of Fermentation course at the close of his college career.

Mudrak joined the TechniPhi team on June 26, and can be reached via email at

Follow Up, or Fail

by Woody Woodcock, Guest Blogger

Have you ever met someone who didn’t remember you? Did you ever have that girl or guy who introduced themselves to you over and over again in college, but you still couldn’t remember their name? There are times when I attend a conference or run into someone and I just can’t place their name. Usually, I am quick to say “would you tell me your name again?” before moving on in our conversation. Most of the time, people don’t mind if you’re honest (and don’t make it a habit). Whenever this happens to me, I make a special mental note to remember their name for our next encounter.

This week at the University of Michigan, something similar happened. This time, the consequences were more detrimental. If you haven’t read about it yet, check out the ESPN story. It was really easy for me to instantly connect this disappointing story to countless others in the fraternity recruitment process when it comes to retaining recruits and new members. Here are two key quotes from that article that are alarming:

“I do not know which recruit they were talking to, but it was not me. It was just a little heartbreaking, for me to supposedly be so high on their list, for them to confuse me with someone else.”

“Plus, they spelled both of my names wrong after I told them, but that was not the main issue. I guess they do not have tabs on me.”

Consider this: if someone is high up on your prospect list, and you spell their name wrong or confuse them for another PNM, how could you expect them to want to join your chapter? As a recruitment leader, you’re expected to be excellent at managing the details. Something little like taking the extra time to get someone’s name right can go a long way toward helping them feel like they are genuinely cared for. Our sister company, Phired Up, even conducted retention research that showed members leave organizations when they don’t believe people truly care for them.

There’s a difference between rush and recruitment. In “rush”, you’re likely rushing the process along to get as many members as you can. When you rush, you likely lose track of important details. Recruitment, on the other hand, is a well planned and consistent effort that helps you get to know PNMs on a deep, authentic level. ChapterBuilder can help you keep your important recruitment details organized so you can be intentional in your pursuit of building relationships. We recommend using ChapterBuilder to help make the details easy for you! Here are just a few things you can do:

  • Create a daily time to review and update your ChapterBuilder account
  • Track who attends your events and who you’ve contacted (calls, texts, and what their replies were) with ChapterBuilder notes and tags
  • Spot-check at least 5 – 7 PNM profiles to ensure that your recruitment team is doing a solid job of being systematic and taking good notes
  • If you discover that information is missing or not up-to-date, work with your recruitment team to help fix that right away!
  • Discuss the ESPN article with your recruitment team to help illustrate the importance of genuinely caring for each of your recruits individually

I’ve worked on dozens of expansions and with hundreds of fraternity chapters across the country, and I’ve learned an important lesson: if you don’t follow up in a meaningful way, you will fail in your recruitment and retention efforts. You have an incredible opportunity to help bring the gift of fraternity to many new members, and you have the tools at your disposal to make it easier and more organized than ever.

If you think you’ve got some recruits who might be on the edge of making a decision to go elsewhere, redouble your efforts to get to know them even better. Learn who else is helping them to make their decision by asking them about the people in their life who they care deeply about, and the people who care deeply about them. Don’t let another team gain your recruit because you squandered your opportunity to make them feel like they matter! Recruitment technology like ChapterBuilder can keep you organized and on track, but the real recruitment work comes down to the quality of the relationships you build.

Alpha Tau Omega Provides ChapterBuilder Technology to 100% of Chapters Beginning Fall 2016

Alpha Tau Omega Provides ChapterBuilder Technology to 100% of Chapters Beginning Fall 2016
Charlotte, NC – Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) announced that all 144 chapters of the fraternity would adopt ChapterBuilder as their year-round recruitment technology. This makes ATO the first large national fraternity to give the recruitment tool to 100% of its chapters.
“ATO makes data-driven decisions,” said RJ Taylor, ATO’s Director of Growth. “The data shows that ATO chapters using ChapterBuilder recruited 1.2 to 1.8 additional members each of the last 2 years compared to chapters that did not use the technology.  There’s clear ROI. That’s a lot of lives changed by ATO that wouldn’t otherwise have been. Results are the main reason we made this decision, but not the only reason.  We’re also using the technology to execute industry-first marketing initiatives to non-Greek men who share ATO’s core values.  Fraternity recruitment is changing rapidly and ATO is committed to being a leader in the interfraternal world.”
ChapterBuilder was officially launched publicly one year ago this week. The description of the technology on the website ( reads, “ChapterBuilder brings potential new members to you, alerts you when it’s time to follow up, gets all your members and advisors involved, keeps recruitment organized, and even provides real-time analytics to make your recruitment process smarter than ever!” Within the first year of public availability, an estimated 40% of all fraternity chapters in North America have created an account. To further underscore the impact of this technology, 800,000 potential new member profiles have been created by ChapterBuilder users.
ATO was an early adopter of ChapterBuilder – participating in the beta tests and pre-launch trial phases of the software’s development. For the last two years the organization sponsored 30 account subscriptions for select pilot chapters.
Josh Orendi, co-Owner of TechniPhi – the company behind ChapterBuilder – said, “There is no such thing as creating a championship team from a sign-up sheet.  And, we cannot expect chapter leaders to recruit higher quality men until we provide them with higher quality tools to do so.  Spreadsheets are dead.”  Orendi continued by praising ATO, “ATO understands that the quality of a fraternity is most greatly influenced by the quality of the men it recruits. This move by ATO to give ChapterBuilder to every chapter just put them in the pole position of recruitment on 144 college campuses.”
“Fraternity is an old business that can be slow to change and reluctant to implement organization wide initiatives.  Alpha Tau Omega is breaking the mold,” said Jessica Gendron Williams, TechniPhi’s CEO. “ATO isn’t afraid to innovate.  Their early partnership with TechniPhi gave them a strong voice that influenced what ChapterBuilder has become. I’m thrilled to expand our partnership to provide standard level ChapterBuilder subscriptions to every ATO chapter in the nation.”
The announcement about ChapterBuilder comes during an exciting week for ATO. Over 500 members are gathering together for the organization’s biennial ATO Congress, taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina this year. Chapters will learn how ATO is combining ChapterBuilder technology, advanced recruitment education, and highly innovative growth-focused marketing initiatives to help make recruitment easier and more effective for all its chapters and expansion projects.

Explaining ChapterBuilder to Alumni

Your chapter is using ChapterBuilder. Excellent.  You want to explain ChapterBuilder to your alumni volunteers.  Smart.  How do you do that?

This blog will help.

Recruitment changes over time.  That timeline is speeding up.  We’re not surprised when older alumni are a little out of touch, but recruitment technology is changing so fast than even your youngest alumni may give you blank stares when you tell them what you’re doing.

Here five easy steps you can take to introduce ChapterBuilder to alumni members (young and old) so they understand, see the value, and feel included.

1. Explain WHY you are using ChapterBuilder:

“We’re only as good as the people we recruit.  We weren’t meeting or tracking relationships with many of the highest quality students on campus.  Now we are!  ChapterBuilder is the recruitment database, communication, and voting software that helps us produce consistent results.  Spreadsheets are dead.  ChapterBuilder makes us smarter, faster, and more effective at bringing higher quantities of higher quality people into our chapter.”

2. Share DATA points:

  • ChapterBuilder launched publicly in fall 2015.
  • 40+ national fraternities and sororities are adopting ChapterBuilder.
  • 20,000 people use ChapterBuilder.
  • 1 in every 5 fraternity chapters in the United States is using ChapterBuilder.
  • 30,000 PNM leads were generated into ChapterBuilder accounts — these are high quality, non-Greek students that chapters may not have otherwise met.
  • 275,000 texts and 150,000 emails were sent via ChapterBuilder.  Recruitment is changing.
  • Chapters using ChapterBuilder from Fall 2015 – Fall 2016 added an average of 2 new members more than their prior year average.

3. Let them SEE ChapterBuilder:

  • Watch the teaser video at
  • Show them your ChapterBuilder account and how you use it.

4. Show them how it HELPS THEM as an advisor/alumnus:

  • Alumni registered as a chapter “coach” in ChapterBuilder have access to view the chapter’s account.
  • Coaches can monitor “insights” [show them the insights tab] to see exactly what is going great and to help fix misteps before it’s too late to recover.
  • Coaches receive proactive email communication directly from ChapterBuilder’s “virtual coach.”  They receive analysis, reports, and recommendations that will help them support the year round recruitment of the chapter.
  • Coaches have their own blog site [] to help them maximize the technology and do their volunteer job at a high level.

5. It’s easy to get trained and GET STARTED:

  • Sign up for a 20 minute training demo at
  • If appropriate, add alumni as a “team coach” in the “team” tab under settings.

Spreadsheets are dead.  ChapterBuilder is here to stay.  Undergrad feedback has been positive and the data is telling a clear story that its working – this is the future of recruitment.  Smart thinking getting your alumni involved early and often.  These five steps should help you and your alumni members feel confident growing your organization.

We are Growing Together!

The weather is getting colder, which is a perfect time to curl up under a blanket and read this blog about the extraordinary year we’ve had together.

We grew a lot together in 2015! Here are some of the highlights:

You’ll love hearing from these top ChapterBuilder users:

  • Sigma Nu recruits 112 new members at TCU using ChapterBuilder
  • Sigma Pi chapters raving about fast growth using ChapterBuilder
  • The system is incredibly helpful and allows my team to make contact with PNMs in a way that makes sure no one falls through the cracks.
    - Colin Pinkston, Lambda Chi Alpha at Coastal Carolina
  • I have multiple chapters with whom I work. Those chapters actively engaged with ChapterBuilder are experiencing tremendous success with recruitment with many closing in on or reaching campus total. This tool has enabled us to shift from a reactive to a proactive year round recruitment model! ”
    - Cat Aiple Smith, AOII Volunteer

Thank you for trusting us to help your chapter grow last year!

As you start back to school, remember the most successful chapters transition their new officers. We’ve made it easy! Add new officers to your ChapterBuilder account in Settings->Team. Whether officers are new to ChapterBuilder, or ChapterBuilder veterans, have your new officers request-a-demo to see how the best chapters recruit with ChapterBuilder.

We have a lot in store for you in 2016!

- The TechniPhi Team.

You requested it. We developed it. The ChapterBuilder Website Widget is here!!

10 minutes to set up and it’s FREE.

Fraternity and sorority headquarters gather recruitment leads and recommendations from alumni and members — often through the headquarters website. This is a great value for chapters! But, typically there’s a clumsy process involving spreadsheet(s) and a headquarters staff member sending multiple emails to chapter recruitment officers — hoping the chapter will follow up with potential new members.

Introducing the ChapterBuilder Website Widget! A faster, easier, more effective way to share recruitment leads! Place a bit of code on your existing website and ChapterBuilder sends your referrals to the right chapter automatically.

CLICK HERE to see a sample.

Here’s how it works:

In your ChapterBuilder HQ Dashboard -> Feeders section: Customize the form questions. Copy and paste your widget code onto your HQ website. The widget is ready to go! You can customize the form and style the widget button to match your website.

Many of your chapters may already have a ChapterBuilder account. Any leads for those chapters will automatically appear in that chapter’s ChapterBuilder account. Recruitment leaders receive a special notification and ChapterBuilder manages the following up for you.

If a chapter does not have a ChapterBuilder account, no worries! We’ll send the leads to the correct campus professional marked “Exclusively for YOUR ORG.”

Plus, your staff can access the dashboard to see where leads were sent and which PNMs joined.

BONUS: Customize a branded email message to let the PNM know when his/her name is recommended. Send an automated THANK YOU message to the submitter. Both automated messages can be configured to come from a member of your staff.

Save your staff members time — they will not have to check your online website form any more. Give your chapters a competitive edge — they’ll receive recruitment recommendations automatically. Set up your widget in your ChapterBuilder Dashboard -> Feeders Section. Or call or email David at 314-401-6767 | to set up your website widget today.

Thanks for a asking us to develop this great idea!!
