Carmel, Ind. – TechniPhi is proud to announce our newest full-adoption partner for ChapterBuilder! Delta Kappa Epsilon is the most recent national fraternity to implement ChapterBuilder to all 64 of the organization’s chapters.

Delta Kappa Epsilon began piloting the recruitment software with chapters in 2016, and is excited to be able to offer the innovative recruitment software as part of their growth strategy.

TechniPhi Welcomes Erik Mudrak to Development Team

Mudrak will work as a Developer helping to make improvements, upgrades, and enhancements that will improve the user experience of our core technologies including ChapterBuilder, CampusDirector, and MyVote.

“Bringing Erik onto our team is such an exciting moment for TechniPhi and our customers!” said Ellen Chesnut, Vice President of TechniPhi. “Erik brings a unique perspective to our team as he is the first developer to work for TechniPhi that used our technologies as an undergraduate fraternity leader. This perspective will undoubtedly help to serve our clients as we continue to improve and upgrade our products.”

Mudrak is a May 2017 graduate of Transylvania University, where he earned his degree in Computer Science. Prior to joining the TechniPhi team, he interned as a digital marketer at his university, served as a software developer for a small start up in Kentucky, and as a designer for Big Ass Fans.

“Greek life tends to hold fast to many of the traditions and processes that have been in place for ages, and that’s exactly what I spent my college fraternity career focused on changing,” said Mudrak, who served as the chapter president for his chapter of Delta Sigma Phi. “Fraternity and sorority organizations have a great deal to gain from utilizing technology, and I want to be a part of shaping the values of the 21st century fraternity. I want to build brilliant cross-platform web apps that enhance communication, excellence, and national bonds for Greek chapters.”

When he isn’t coding, Mudrak enjoys running, playing guitar and seeing live music, and photography. He also recently began a new hobby of beer-making, which he started after taking a Science of Fermentation course at the close of his college career.

Follow Up, or Fail

Have you ever met someone who didn’t remember you? Did you ever have that girl or guy who introduced themselves to you over and over again in college, but you still couldn’t remember their name? There are times when I attend a conference or run into someone and I just can’t place their name. Usually, I am quick to say “would you tell me your name again?” before moving on in our conversation. Most of the time, people don’t mind if you’re honest (and don’t make it a habit). Whenever this happens to me, I make a special mental note to remember their name for our next encounter.

This week at the University of Michigan, something similar happened. This time, the consequences were more detrimental. If you haven’t read about it yet, check out the ESPN story. It was really easy for me to instantly connect this disappointing story to countless others in the fraternity recruitment process when it comes to retaining recruits and new members. Here are two key quotes from that article that are alarming:

“I do not know which recruit they were talking to, but it was not me. It was just a little heartbreaking, for me to supposedly be so high on their list, for them to confuse me with someone else.”

And,

“Plus, they spelled both of my names wrong after I told them, but that was not the main issue. I guess they do not have tabs on me.”

Consider this: if someone is high up on your prospect list, and you spell their name wrong or confuse them for another PNM, how could you expect them to want to join your chapter? As a recruitment leader, you’re expected to be excellent at managing the details. Something little like taking the extra time to get someone’s name right can go a long way toward helping them feel like they are genuinely cared for. Our sister company, Phired Up, even conducted retention research that showed members leave organizations when they don’t believe people truly care for them.

There’s a difference between rush and recruitment. In “rush”, you’re likely rushing the process along to get as many members as you can. When you rush, you likely lose track of important details. Recruitment, on the other hand, is a well planned and consistent effort that helps you get to know PNMs on a deep, authentic level. ChapterBuilder can help you keep your important recruitment details organized so you can be intentional in your pursuit of building relationships. We recommend using ChapterBuilder to help make the details easy for you! Here are just a few things you can do:

  • Create a daily time to review and update your ChapterBuilder account
  • Track who attends your events and who you’ve contacted (calls, texts, and what their replies were) with ChapterBuilder notes and tags
  • Spot-check at least 5 – 7 PNM profiles to ensure that your recruitment team is doing a solid job of being systematic and taking good notes
  • If you discover that information is missing or not up-to-date, work with your recruitment team to help fix that right away!
  • Discuss the ESPN article with your recruitment team to help illustrate the importance of genuinely caring for each of your recruits individually

I’ve worked on dozens of expansions and with hundreds of fraternity chapters across the country, and I’ve learned an important lesson: if you don’t follow up in a meaningful way, you will fail in your recruitment and retention efforts. You have an incredible opportunity to help bring the gift of fraternity to many new members, and you have the tools at your disposal to make it easier and more organized than ever.

If you think you’ve got some recruits who might be on the edge of making a decision to go elsewhere, redouble your efforts to get to know them even better. Learn who else is helping them to make their decision by asking them about the people in their life who they care deeply about, and the people who care deeply about them. Don’t let another team gain your recruit because you squandered your opportunity to make them feel like they matter! Recruitment technology like ChapterBuilder can keep you organized and on track, but the real recruitment work comes down to the quality of the relationships you build.

Alpha Tau Omega Provides ChapterBuilder Technology to 100% of Chapters Beginning Fall 2016
 
Charlotte, NC – Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) announced that all 144 chapters of the fraternity would adopt ChapterBuilder as their year-round recruitment technology. This makes ATO the first large national fraternity to give the recruitment tool to 100% of its chapters.
 
“ATO makes data-driven decisions,” said RJ Taylor, ATO’s Director of Growth. “The data shows that ATO chapters using ChapterBuilder recruited 1.2 to 1.8 additional members each of the last 2 years compared to chapters that did not use the technology.  There’s clear ROI. That’s a lot of lives changed by ATO that wouldn’t otherwise have been. ChapterBuilder was officially launched publicly one year ago this week. The description of the technology on the website (www.ChapterBuilder.com) reads, “ChapterBuilder brings potential new members to you, alerts you when it’s time to follow up, gets all your members and advisors involved, keeps recruitment organized, and even provides real-time analytics to make your recruitment process smarter than ever!” Within the first year of public availability, an estimated 40% of all fraternity chapters in North America have created an account. To further underscore the impact of this technology, 800,000 potential new member profiles have been created by ChapterBuilder users.
 
ATO was an early adopter of ChapterBuilder – participating in the beta tests and pre-launch trial phases of the software’s development. For the last two years the organization sponsored 30 account subscriptions for select pilot chapters.

Carmel, Ind. — TechniPhi is thrilled to announce that our team is growing with the addition of three new employees.  In March, the TechniPhi team added our first Mobile Developer, Patrick Holloway, who will be focused on developing mobile apps for all of our technologies to better serve the needs of our clients and make our technology more accessible.  In addition to Patrick, TechniPhi also added two new Account Managers, Amanda Wood and Gretchen, both of who will be focused on delivering world-class training, onboarding, customer service and technical support for our growing client base.

Holloway earned his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, where he joined Delta Sigma Phi. His unique background as a fraternity man with passion for technology and design helps make Holloway a perfect fit to craft engaging and useful mobile user experiences that help fraternities and sororities accomplish their recruitment goals more efficiently.

Wood has served the TechniPhi team previously in a tech support role part-time, helping to provide assistance to CampusDirector users during the busy fall recruitment season.

“TechniPhi is known for outstanding customer support and individualized client attention, and I am excited to continue helping to grow these efforts,” said Wood regarding her decision to join the TechniPhi team.  “Recruitment technology is essential to fraternity and sorority growth. gretchenGretchen Foran earned her Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Valparaiso University, where she became a member of Pi Beta Phi. Foran went on to earn her Master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Minnesota State University, Mankato before starting her career as a campus-based professional working with campus life and career development. She joins the TechniPhi team following seven years of experience working for national headquarters organizations like Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity and Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority in the areas of recruitment, extension and programming.

When asked about why she is joining the TechniPhi team, Foran said, “I have had the pleasure of utilizing TechniPhi’s recruitment technologies and know first hand how great the products are. Explaining ChapterBuilder to Alumni

Your chapter is using ChapterBuilder. Excellent.  You want to explain ChapterBuilder to your alumni volunteers.  Smart.  How do you do that?

This blog will help.

Recruitment changes over time.  That timeline is speeding up.  We’re not surprised when older alumni are a little out of touch, but recruitment technology is changing so fast than even your youngest alumni may give you blank stares when you tell them what you’re doing.

Here five easy steps you can take to introduce ChapterBuilder to alumni members (young and old) so they understand, see the value, and feel included.

1. Explain WHY you are using ChapterBuilder:

“We’re only as good as the people we recruit.  We weren’t meeting or tracking relationships with many of the highest quality students on campus.  Now we are!  ChapterBuilder is the recruitment database, communication, and voting software that helps us produce consistent results.  Spreadsheets are dead.  ChapterBuilder makes us smarter, faster, and more effective at bringing higher quantities of higher quality people into our chapter.”

  • Coaches receive proactive email communication directly from ChapterBuilder’s “virtual coach.”  They receive analysis, reports, and recommendations that will help them support the year round recruitment of the chapter.
  • Coaches have their own blog site [blog.ChapterBuilder.com] to help them maximize the technology and do their volunteer job at a high level.

In your ChapterBuilder HQ Dashboard -> Feeders section: Customize the form questions. Copy and paste your widget code onto your HQ website. The widget is ready to go! You can customize the form and style the widget button to match your website.

Many of your chapters may already have a ChapterBuilder account. Any leads for those chapters will automatically appear in that chapter’s ChapterBuilder account. Recruitment leaders receive a special notification and ChapterBuilder manages the following up for you.
